    Plaquenil kills

We were much later told that the Plaquenil had "lowered his tolerance to infection, as it is also an immuno-suppressant." In essence, the medicine allowed the viral infection to cross the barrier between his brain and blood/lungs. His/our question is as to whether he can or should EVER go back on the medication and risk exposure to further illnesses if it is true that Plaquenil or the generic for is, in fact, an immuno-suppressant and presents a serious health risk for him?

Aug 02, 2010 Yes, Plaquenil suppresses the immune system. Autoimmune disease such as Sjogrens occurs when the body gets "confused" and attacks healthy tissue instead of just attacking the germs. Basically, the immune system is a bit out of control. Plaquenil works by suppressing the immune system. Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria. The plasmodium parasite passes through several different stages in its life cycle and Plaquenil tablets 200mg kill the infective stage of the parasite in the blood erythrocytic forms, which breaks the life cycle of the plasmodium as well as preventing further destruction of red blood cells.

We've been told that his 'count' (900 cells per 1,000) was the highest infection level in the spinal fluid that the doctors had ever seen. All the patients they'd encountered w/lower levels had died. (He was never told of that risk when he was put on the medication.) Added : What I failed to mention (above) is that he almost died in April when this happened.

  7. I don't think plaquenil is enough on its own to tackle babesia, you have to take it with other meds like mepron, malarone, artemisinin, etc. I do know that he was a little withdrawn/down when he started it something that I always attribute to a babesia herx for him as he seems to get that way whenever he starts a new babesia type med.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. What Conditions does Plaquenil Treat? malaria prevention; systemic lupus erythematosus; an autoimmune disease; malaria caused by the protozoa Plasmodium malariae; preventive treatment of ovale malaria There is buzz here and there about plaquenil, some people say it helps, others have miserable side effects for months and no help at all. There is no research on it that I have seen – it seems to be guesswork generating its use. There is no evidence I know of though I may be wrong that it can kill the encysted form of the spirochete in vivo.
